If you are a website owner, you probably know that there are many threats out there. You need to make sure that you are taking proper precautions when it comes to website vulnerabilities. If your website is attacked, you can suffer some serious problems with your website. I have listed a few of the key website vulnerabilities that all website owners should be aware of.

SQL Injection

SQL stands for (structured query language). If you have your own website, you are probably familiar with SQL. But what you may not realize is that SQL injection is a huge risk to websites. An SQL injection attack is when someone manipulates or injects malicious code into the SQL strings. A developer may accept user input that is placed into a SQL statement without realizing it, and this can result in the attacker being able to steal data from you database or modify data or possibly even delete it.

Cross Site Scripting

If you haven’t heard of cross site scripting, I am here to tell you that it is a huge risk to your website. Cross site scripting (also known as XSS) is when a web application, without your knowledge, gathers malicious data from a user. Website attackers can inject client side script into web pages viewed by other users. The user might click on this link from another website, instant message, or email message. Users should be careful only to open links for a webpage if they are trusted. Cross site scripting has been shown to be the most prevalent website vulnerability.

Session Hijacking

Another big risk for website owners is session hijacking. Session hijacking refers to the misuse of a legitimate computer session. Basically, it is a method of taking over a web user’s session by illegally acquiring the user session id and masquerading as the approved user. The thief then uses the id to steal important information from the victim. The intrusion may or may not be detectable. If a website does not respond in the normal or expected way, session hijacking may be a possible cause.

So if you are an owner of a website, you need to watch out for these website vulnerabilities. One of the best ways to get rid of any website vulnerabilities is to have quarterly scans of your website by an approved scanning vendor.
